about doris rangel

My life has pretty much run the gamut when it comes to experiences. I've been single; I've been married. I've been a wife and a single mom. I am a grandmother with grandchildren who are far above average. I’ve lived in many houses and did my best to turn them into comfortable homes. I’ve traveled near and far, though I am never happier than when I am in the wide open spaces of the American Southwest..

I’ve worn many hats in my professional life, too: teacher, K through community college and including adult ed.; small business owner (book store); seasonal park ranger with the National Park Service (Bent’s Old Fort in southeastern Colorado and Fort Davis National Historic Site in Far West Texas); Peace Corps Volunteer, twice (the Philippines and Armenia); and countless small filler jobs. All of these various employments have, had different goals: as a single mom, to keep food on the table and clothes on the backs of my 3 children; as a lover of far off places, to see some of the world and enjoy its people up close and personal; as a lover of history, to live it, however vicariously; as a lover of knowledge, to hopefully pass on the joy of it to others.

I’ve been a writer for many years. Give me an interesting setting and I can create a story to go with it. When I was young, I only crafted the stories in my head. It took me a while to figure out I could also write them. My essays and short stories eventually appeared in long ago publications, but you can find the romance novels I wrote for Harlequin/Silhouette on Amazon where my current writing is also located.
